Carpooling in Style

In January 2006, Vance Mullis first met his carpool partners, Gary Nixon and Robert Kealler, at Gas South. More than three years later, they still carpool together ... in convertible style. With two convertibles in the group of three, it's no wonder why they still share a ride.
According to Vance, an executive at Gas South, they drive to work with the top down year-round, no matter what the temperature. He keeps extra blankets in his Mustang Cobra Convertible. And yes, they get funny looks, especially in the wintertime.
Over the years the carpoolers have introduced each other to new music. Vance taught Gary and Robert about Hank Williams, Jr. Meanwhile, he learned to appreciate Bob Marley and the Cantamus Girl's Choir.
The carpoolers find plenty to talk about on their 17 mile drive together from North Fulton County every day, despite what might seem like differences such as age and home town. Gary hails from Great Britain, Robert from Massachusetts and Vance from North Carolina.
This carpool has kept almost 40,000 miles off of the road over their years together. Commuter Club would like to recognize this carpool for their contribution in making our area a better place to live, work and play through cleaner air and less congestion.
If you have a clean commuting story that you would like to share please email Lisa Fortier. We would love to share your story!
