The Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre Grand Opening is this Weekend!
|
|
You’ve watched the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre under construction for months, and the grand opening is here! The Cobb Energy Centre will mark the first major performing arts facility to open in Atlanta in four decades. The Centre will accommodate events from Broadway shows and corporate functions to family entertainment.
We hope you were able to take advantage of the complimentary tickets courtesy of Commuter Club and the Cumberland CID to get a sneak peek of the Performing Arts Centre during the acoustical tests in August. If you didn’t have a chance to check out the new facility then, make plans now to celebrate during the Grand Opening weekend! For information on this weekend’s events and more, please visit www.cobbenergycentre.com.
You can head over to the Performing Arts Centre on foot thanks to the enhanced sidewalks and lighting along Akers Mill Road and Cobb Galleria Parkway, which the Cumberland CID funded. If you’re enjoying the area trails, you can connect to the sidewalks alongside the Centre that are a part of the Atlanta Regional Commission’s Livable Centers Initiative (LCI) $5.2 million streetscaping project.
We hope you’ll join us for one of these exciting opening celebrations!

EPA Examines Ozone Levels
|
What exactly is ozone? In the upper atmosphere, ozone filters ultraviolet light from reaching the Earth’s surface. Ground-level ozone is smog. Essentially pollutants from power plants, cars, ships, engines, chemical plants, factories, gas stations, paint and many other sources react in the presence of sunlight and heat. Ozone is harmful because it chemically reacts with internal body tissues and can lead to lung disease, increased asthma attacks, inflammation and damage to the lining of the lungs, shortness of breath, wheezing, coughing and premature death.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is proposing a plan to strengthen the limit on ground level ozone – the smog that envelops large cities particularly during the summer months. However, scientists believe the proposed limits should be even stronger. You are welcome to e-mail the EPA through October 8, 2007 to provide feedback on the ground level ozone limits. Reference Docket ID: EPA-HQ-OAR-2005-0172.
